Young actors learn everything needed to perform this production. From turning on the very first stage light, right through to the very last bow. This theatrical training experience gives students a chance to journey through all aspects of theatre. During rehearsals we work on basic acting techniques, starting off with warm ups using theatre games and improv and then moving into blocking for the show and other “show specific” criteria needed for the production. Additionally, students choose to use their time working on lighting, costuming, house management or back stage. Each students enrolled receives an on stage role and performs in our final production open to the public. |

Session 1 Cinderella
Music by Book and Lyrics by RICHARD RODGERS OSCAR HAMMERSTEIN II. Adaptation by TOM BRIGGS. Orchestrations by Robert Russell Bennett. Adapted for this edition by John Higgins.
Impossible things are happening every day!" sings the Godmother in Rodgers & Hammerstein's musical fairy tale CINDERELLA, and impossible things will happen when young performers bring this timeless tale to life. First seen as a television spectacular in 1957, and remade for television in 1965 and 1997, Rodgers & Hammerstein's CINDERELLA spins its own version of the traditional story, woven through with such beloved songs as "In My Own Little Corner," "Ten Minutes Ago" and "Impossible." With the script and score lovingly adapted for elementary and middle school performers, this classic seems as fresh as today. After all, even if we know the story by heart, we still hold our breath until we are sure that the slipper fits.
Rehearsals Begin: June 16, 2008
No Class: July 4
Performances: July 11 & 12 @ 7:00 pm and July 13 @ 1:00 & 5:00 pm
Session 2 Bugsy Malone Jr.
Book by Alan Parker. Lyrics by Paul Williams. Music by Paul Williams.
A cast of youngsters play all the parts in this tongue-in-cheek tribute to the 1920s gangster flick. It seems Fat Sam, who runs one of the most popular clubs in town, is in danger of being closed down by his "business rival" Dandy Dan. Enter baby-faced Bugsy Malone, a killer with the ladies and a definite asset to Fat Sam. Unfortunately, Bugsy has also caught the eye of Sam’s girlfriend Tallulah -though he's set his designs on showgirl Blousey Brown...
Like the film, this wild and wacky musical includes a child's dream come true: a non-violent gang war fought with "splurge blasters" which spew forth silly string! It's a thoroughly charming concept resulting in delightfully messy fun. The cast includes a chorus which may be expanded to include as many performers as desired. Originally written for children, Bugsy Malone Junior is a wonderful showcase for talented young performers, with a catchy, swinging score by the composer of The Muppet Movie.
Rehearsals Begin: July 31, 2008
Performances: August 15 & 16 @ 7:00 pm and August 17 @ 1:00 & 5:00 pm
